2nd annual Tour de PIF – a stellar success

2nd annual Tour de PIF – a stellar success

All

In only its second year, Tour de PIF Brisbane, sponsored by Slattery, was a sell-out event with over 125 riders from the property and construction industry taking part to raise money and awareness for youth homelessness.

Tour de PIF is not possible without the ongoing support of Slattery – our 2017 and 2018 event sponsor. Special mention and thank you to Josh Slattery (Executive Chairman) as well as Mark Pickerill (Director) for your ongoing sponsorship of this event.

The 2018 event started and finished at Sirromet Winery and featured two course distances – 56km or the more challenging 72km.

Riders were treated to magnificent views of the picturesque Mt Cotton region and surrounds, as well as terrific on-course support with moto scouts, mobile mechanics, first aid vehicles and sweep cars supporting them throughout the ride.

The 72km course featured a King, Queen and Team of the Mountain challenge – where riders were challenged to attain the fastest time up the timed-climb section of the Mountain.

Congratulations to –

  • 2018 King of the Mountain: David Kelly, Slattery
  • 2018 Queen of the Mountain: Louise Gunston, Mirvac

Before setting off on the ride, guests were given the opportunity to ‘buy a rider’ to further their chance of taking home the Team of the Mountain challenge – and to further add to the fundraising efforts of the day. Special thanks to our back-by-popular-demand event Auctioneers Bill and Ben, or Greg Clarke and Gavin Moore from McGees Property, for their brilliant efforts!

Congratulations to 2018 Team of the Mountain: Slattery.

In addition and in the lead up to the event, riders fundraised for the event and sought donations from family, friends and colleagues and also participated in a raffle on the day, collectively raising over $35,000 – an astounding result.

Congratulations to ALL fundraisers and special congratulations to the highest fundraisers for the 2018 Tour de PIF event –

  • 2018 Highest individual fundraiser is: Matthew Rollason, Dentons who raised $2,894
  • 2018 Highest fundraising team is: the Dentons + McGees Property Team, raising $8,890

As mentioned on the day by PIF Queensland Chairman, Brian McGuckin, and Urbis’s Sarah Davies, the money raised from this event will go directly into building Queensland’s first PIF House – located at Toombul. The Foundation has been gifted a parcel of land from the Queensland Government, and earlier this year lodged a Development Application to the Brisbane City Council to refurbish the property and construct 6 x one bedroom purpose-built units, across two stages of work. This house will become a home and safe place to some of the young people currently experiencing homelessness.

Post-ride, guests were treated to a scrumptious food-truck style luncheon with alfresco seating overlooking the rolling hills of Sirromet Winery and heard from special guest speakers including –

  • Katrin Garfoot, Commonwealth Games Medalist
  • Stu Shaw, Australian Cycling Academy
  • Matt Wilson, Australia Cycling Academy

The Foundation would not be able to deliver events like Tour de PIF without the support of a group of individuals who give up their time and share their expertise in the lead up to the event. The Foundation would like to thank the Tour de PIF organising committee and extends a very special thank you to Chairman Matthew Rollason (Dentons) and committee members James Dimsey (Dexus), Mark Pickerill (Slattery), David Zacharie (Slattery) and Lizzi Byrne (Davidson).

The Foundation also thanks the exceptional volunteers who gave up their time to assist in the delivery of the event: Susan Mercer (geon property), Jade Richardson (JLL), Avril Pretorious (Davidson), Lyn Matthews, Karen McIntyre (Act 4 Kids), Roxy King (Northrop), Greta Pearson and Nikita Daley.

The Foundation thanks everyone who was involved in ensuring the success of this event – and we hope to see you again next year!
