Rocking out to build homes for homeless youth

Rocking out to build homes for homeless youth

Mike Fleet is a Mechanical Engineer at WSP but on 15 August he takes to the stage as lead vocal in a band made up of old school mates. This is the challenge and the genius in one of the industry’s most innovative fundraising event, Construction Rocks, which hits the Oxford Art Factory on 15 August.

This construction industry battle of the bands was started by WSP in London in 2007. It is now a global phenomenon, being staged also in Washington, Gothenburg, Auckland, Melbourne and Sydney. It started in Sydney in 2015 and then Melbourne in 2018. All the events are led by WSP and open to organisations across the construction industry.

This year Icon is Platinum Sponsor for the event with Cranfield Group as Gold Sponsor.

Mike, who is one of the organisers in Sydney, said Construction Rocks is different from other industry networking events because it is very interactive.

“You look at people who take the stage at the event and you would never guess they were in a band if you saw them in the street,” he said.

Last year the event raised $15,000 which was donated to PIF to help us build homes for homeless youth. This year the aim is to raise a similar amount - or more!

The event has sold out in Sydney every year and this year 220 tickets (of the 500 available) have already sold out. Don’t miss out! Book your ticket today!
