API continues extensive support of PIF at StreetSLEEP 2019

For many years the Australian Property Institute has supported PIF’s fundraising events such as sailing and cycling. API CEO Amelia Hodge says that API is committed to supporting grassroots programs that add value and give back to the community and that’s why the organisation is an Industry Partner for StreetSLEEP 2019.

Amelia is clear on the problem that homelessness represents to our very fortunate country.

“In this country, as in any country, it concerns me greatly that anyone is on the street, but particularly youth and now we are seeing an increasing number of women over the age of 50,” she says.

“It can happen to any of us and may happen through no fault of any one individual, but through illness, job loss, economic or emotional abuse, divorce or family violence and it is extremely hard to negotiate a way out without external support.

“As a result, it makes it difficult to participate in education and employment, and leaves one vulnerable to violence, poor physical and mental health and economic and social exclusion.”

StreetSLEEP is happening on World Homeless Day 10 Oct in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and on 9 Oct on the Gold Coast.

“I am sleeping out at the event in Sydney and we are encouraging all of our API members, including our broader stakeholder community to get involved,” Amelia says.  “We will be conducting a social media and member news campaign seeking donations and support from anyone that wants to join me on the cardboard.”

Amelia and the team are encouraging everyone from across the industry to get involved.

“My tip for other teams is, every dollar counts and even if it’s $5 dollars and probably also lots of clothing layers to counteract the cardboard effect,” she says. “We will be contributing to a cause that will help young Australians find a safe and secure home resulting in a better future.”

We have seen real and tangible improvement to thousands of lives through the PIF House Program and PIF contributions to a range of frontline charities and services.”
