The funds raised from the Inaugural Charity Rally Challenge will be used to provide a new tractor for the Sir David Martin Foundation Triple Care Farm.

The Sir David Martin Foundation was officially launched by Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of York, at Sydney's Parliament House 3 months after Sir David's death in November 1990. This was the beginning of a wonderful legacy to disadvantaged young Australians.

As Governor, Sir David saw the need to provide further assistance to the large number of homeless young people who inhabit our streets. He recognised that the Sydney City Mission (now Mission Australia), a non-denominational charity of which he was also Patron, had over 120 years of experience helping disadvantaged people. It was well placed to carry out his vision of an Australian community which would nurture and inspire its young people. Under its administration, the Sir David Martin Foundation was established.

Over the last 11 years the Foundation has gone from strength to strength.  In the early days, Lady Martin managed the Foundation's activities but as interest grew, it was handed over to an Office Secretariat.

Our association with Royal visits has extended well beyond the initial launch. In 1994 the Foundation hosted a dinner to honour Prince Edward's visit to Sydney and the Prince also made a trip to Triple Care Farm during his stay.  In 1994 the Foundation was a beneficiary of a luncheon for Lady Diana during her Royal visit.

Likewise, the tradition of the Governor of NSW accepting the role of Patron of the Foundation has continued to the present day. Following David's term, Rear Admiral Peter Sinclair became Patron (1990 – 1996), the Hon. Gordon J Samuels AC (1996 – 2001) and currently Her Excellency, Professor Marie Bashir AC (2001 - Present). Similarly the Premiers of NSW have been involved in the work of the Foundation as Vice Patrons.
