In many cases, these young people have fled from their abusive environments only to find themselves in a far worse predicament on the streets.
These children need rehabilitation, an education and an opportunity to participate in a positive and healthy life.
Help us at the Charity Ball to get these kids off our streets.
Proceeds from this event will contribute to the YWCA youth program.
The YWCA Taking Control – Your life in Your hands program is specifically designed to develop and educate 300 young people, who are at risk of disengaging from their education, their families, their communities and in some cases from their life, and equip them with the knowledge and skills to:
- Identify, prevent, and combat bullying, abuse and violence in their relationships, families and communities
- Motivate, guide and support them to believe in themselves and begin to achieve their potential
- Communicate assertively and effectively in their lives to develop resilience and safe, positive personal relationships
- Make positive change through increased confidence and self-esteem which supports them to develop new ideas and ways of thinking and encourages personal growth
- Improve their chances of gaining employment through the development of job and career skills
- Creation of financial independence through increased financial literacy
- Reduce the likelihood for becoming homeless or involved in unhealthy risk taking behaviours.
